The jalapeo pepper is a medium-sized chili pepper with a warm but not fiery-hot sensation when eaten. A mature jalapeo is commonly picked when still green, but occasionally when ripe and red. This hugely popular hot pepper originated in Mexico, and many hotter varieties have become available over the years. Jalapeos measure at 2,500-8,000 Scoville heat units.
